Meet Marge the Monty, our 1998 Mitsubishi Montero. She’s a super capable overland vehicle that was built to ramble through the great outdoors. She’s more compact than our other rental, Daisy Mae, but can get you more places. She comes equipped with a full size 4” memory foam mattress. And you have options on where you sleep — sometimes you might want to camp in a low profile way and crash in the back of the truck peering out at the stars through the sunroof window. Other times, you may want to set up the tent that we include so that you have a bit more space to move around. Your call. We like to mix it up so some nights we’re tent camping, other nights we’re crashing in the back. The rig is also equipped with a stove, fridge, house battery, two awnings, and highly compact camp chairs, table and stool. In all our rentals we include complimentary spices, kitchen/cookware set, and teas. She’s an old lady truck and is a little pokey on the freeway at high speeds, but more than makes up for it when she returns to her natural habitat in the great outdoors.

The mattress is just the right size to set up inside the truck if you don't want to set up the tent.
Everything is compact in this truck -- use the collapsible table as a prep table and then a mini dining table when you're ready to sit down and eat.
Fun fact -- the Montero, also known as a Pajero in other countries, was the most winning truck in the Paris-Dakar rallies, winning from 1985 to 2007.
The awnings make all the difference, giving you shade off of the side and the back of the rig. They also pop up in less than 5 minutes!
Cooking al fresco with the built in one-burner stove at the back of the truck.
Marge made it to the Colorado River on the Arizona/California border.
Rolling through the Joshua Trees in the Mojave desert...
Marge takes regular gas and clocks in at 12-14 MPG. She's a thirsty lady, with a 24 gallon tank, which makes her ideal for long overland trips.
Break time! The awnings are easy to set up and take down so every time we stop in the desert, we whip them out for maximum shade and comfort.
Oh hey, Joshua Trees. Reach out if you want the scoop on visiting Joshua Tree National park or other local national forests and recreation areas!
At the back of the truck are two drawers that slide out. The right side has a sink and a one-burner stove.
The prep table is a nice, portable option to stage our cook station. The jet boil can be included as an add-on.
Thursday night is the farmer's market in South Pasadena. We like to pick up a DIY ramen kit from one of the vendors there for delicious camp meals.
We highly recommend you include the Wekapo lounge chair for maximum comfort. Almost all of our add-ons are free. Just request that we add it in.
We include a Trasheroo on the spare tire at the back of the truck. This can either be used to haul your trash, firewood, or anything else you desire.
The back of the truck has lights that turn on whenever you place the vehicle in reverse, making it easy to see in low light situations.
And when the tent is too much, roll out the mattress in the back of the truck and snuggle up.
Marge in her natural habitat. She was born for the desert.
This was Marge’s first drive through the Mojave National Preserve. You can see the Kelso dunes in the background.
Here she is in the Mojave again.
This time we have the back awning set up to provide shade while we cook breakfast in the morning.
There’s nothing better than getting to the dispersed campsite in BLM land right in time to catch a spectacular sunset.
The left compartment is for dry good storage. If you select the complementary Cooking Set add-on, we also include cookware, utensils, spices
Awnings up, lounge chair out, folding camp chair in position. Engage chill mode.
Setting up the Wekapo lounge chair is quick and easy. We’ll show you how so that you can put it to use on your next vacation.
Chilling on top of a dune in the Mojave. Other nearby dunes include Kelso, Coral Pink Sand Dunes, Imperial Sand Dunes, and Ocotillo Wells.
Sleep al fresco with the back door open, the side windows open...
When you're ready to start driving, pack it all up. The mattress lives in the case on the left. The netting above allows you to stash extra layers.
Hiding from the sun is crucial in the desert. Marge has your back whenever you need it.
 I mean…! She’s a beauty, innit??
Let us know if you want to take her off road. All off road travel needs written approval and should be graded roads like this or forest roads.
