Head out to the west to visit this family owned and operated campground with a rustic charm in a convenient, central location. The campground is located in the Heart of the Black Hills of South Dakota. Voted as one of the Top Ten Places to stay by Trip Advisor, Horse Thief Campground and RV Resort is this week’s Travel Tuesday Featured Campground. Keep reading to find out why.
No matter which direction you are coming from, the journey to Horse Thief is full wildlife and beauty. Herds of wild mustang run through the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary and buffalo roam in Custer State Park. In addition, the campground has an amazing location, being only 12 miles away Mount Rushmore and a short drive from the Mammoth site and Crazy Horse Monument. Surrounded by family attractions, you won’t ever run out of activities to do.
The campground is spread over 40 acres of old mining territory from the 1800s. It is full of nature and large camping sites. The camping sites and sleeping cabins each have fire rings and tables. Here you can gather near the warm fire and search for constellations in the clear night sky. During the day, campers and RVers can indulge themselves into on-site activities like hiking, biking, mountain climbing, fishing and rock hounding. This is also a perfect place for photographers and history lovers.
Rates are also affordable considering the location and amenities included. For a tent site and no services around peak season is only $30. A tent site with all the services, RV 50 AMP E/W/S, around peak season is only $55. There are also multiple options for sleeping cabins and cottages, which can sleep from 3-8.
