Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching us, and we couldn’t be more excited! Instead of doing dinner, a movie, chocolate and flowers, why not extend the holiday and find the perfect Valentine’s Day outdoor destination for you and your S.O.? Camping trips, the trip to get to your destination and talks around the campfire will give you more memories to cherish than flowers any day! The holiday happens to fall on a Thursday this year, too, so use this as an opportunity to take few days off work and head out on a romantic getaway you’ll never forget.

Below are a few perfect Romantic Camping Escapes for you and your Valentine’s Day love.

Badlands National Park, South Dakota

Getting to the scenery is definitely quite a trek, but it’s certainly worth it. The Badlands are also ideal for the most breathtaking stargazing views, and you can choose between its two campgrounds: Cedar Pass or Sage Creek. If a log cabin is more your style, you can check out the Frontier Cabins Motel, which is only six miles from the Badlands. Couples have 33 unique and fully furbished cabins to choose from all with private baths. You’ll have the option to explore the Badlands, or you can stay on the Frontier Cabins Motel property and use the sauna, hot tub or picnic area. The Cabins are just right for a scenic retreat for couples who are looking to escape the hectic city life for a day or two.

Assateague Island National Seashore, Maryland

Spearfish Canyon Lodge, South Dakota

Get ready for the perfect adventurous and romantic getaway at the Spearfish Canyon Lodge in South Dakota. The surrounding area of the lodge has two of the highest peaks east of the Rockies and has well over 300 miles of perfectly-paved out snowmobile trails and ski slopes. Your Own Back Yard

We get it. We know these romantic weekend getaways don’t always work out, so that’s when you look to your back (or front) yard to spend some time together. So grab a tent, a few sleeping bags, blankets and pillows and some board games or a deck of cards. To set the mood in your tent, hang up some fairy lights to keep your tent lit up. You’ll also need a cooler to keep your wine, champagne and snacks cold. And who could camp out without a fire? If possible, create a small fire to share some s’mores and a bottle of red wine. Want to take it even further? Find the perfect romantic Dutch oven recipe to share with your S.O. and make it and amazing experience neither one of you will forget.

Hunting Island, South Carolina

This semi-tropical beachfront features several camping spaces, over 4 miles of beachfront, walking trails, plenty of fishing spots and even a working lighthouse. What beachfront is complete without one? If you’re visiting for a day, pack up a picnic and chairs and hang out on the beach. On the island’s north end, a walk will put you in an area with crashing waves and falling trees, giving the visitor total seclusion and serenity. Just watch the tide chart. Bring your dogs, dig your toes in the sand. Stay at one of their 3,000 different campsites and stargaze in the Appalachians with roasted marshmallows and you have yourself the most private, secluded Valentine’s Day getaway ever.
