Problem with roof

We were just told by Camping World that the roof on our 94 Winnebago needs to be replaced. Our choices are a rubberized coating which they say will last 1 year, or a rubber roof, which will last 3 years. The roof is fiberglass now. We could also do fiberglass, but it sounds like the price may not make sense for a motorhome this old. We would appreciate your thoughts.

question aboutn travel trailer brakes

We have a 1997 Gulfstream Class C that we have put 110,000 miles on in approx. 8 years. We know we will have to buy a new rv eventually. Since we now own a Ford F150 we were considering a small travel trailer (no greater than 18/20 ft. total length). Since we have never pulled a tt, what would we have to install on our truck? We have trailer lights as we pull out ski boat but would we have to have some kind of brake controller & a sway bar? We looked under the hood of our truck & it looks like we have some time of transmission cooler but what else would we have to have?

Air conditioner

I have a 26 foot towable trailer that has a 13,500 BTU AC unit. The unit blows cold air but I think it should be a lot colder. For example, there are four in the family and when we are all in the trailer, with the outside temperature in the high 80's or 90's it is really quite uncomfortable. Am I expecting too much?
I took the cover off and carefully cleaned the unit but didn't seem to help.

What am I missing?

Thanks

Full-timing in a few years

Hello,
I grew up around rving and am now a few years away from full timing it with my wife. We have been looking at the Forest River Wildcat and Cardinal as well as the Silverback. We are at least a few years away from hitting the road, but would like to seriously start looking into what we like and don't like as well as what is known by the pros as a a great rig to full time it in. In terms of trucks we have been told everything from a Ford f250 diesel to a 350 with dually's.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Dan

P.S. - how long before solar power can run an RV?

Kohler Generator

REcently purchased a Georgie Boy Cruise Master with a Kohler Generator (works great)> My question is regarding the oil dipstick. According to the manual it is just placed on the top of the tube to check oil level -- or does it mean that it is "snapped" all the way down in it's locked position to get an oil level reading.

Wayne (Wisconsin)

Yamaha EF2400is

Does anyone have any experience with this generator? Mine has about 8 hours on it and when started will only run for a few seconds then smoothly shut off. It will not restart unless it sits for several minutes then the same thing repeats.
The spark plug is clean and dry when I pull it out to check. Spark is present. Though I don't know if it is sparking immediately after a shutdown.
I am suspecting the low oil shutoff switch though the oil level is fine and the low oil light does not come on when it dies and stops which gives me doubts. This switch does not look very accessible to try and bypass for troubleshooting.
I unintentionaly stored it a few months with unstabilized gas in the carb. I could smell the stale stuff when I was choking it up on the 1st start attempts. I drained the float bowl twice to make sure fresh was getting to it. These things auto throttle which I am unfamiliar with and don't know if that could be a factor.
Help.

Place: Yuma Arizona

Well folks after 15 years I hit the wall. Total burnout. I sold the RV on Craigslist in 3 days. Well I almost gave it away. Nobody has any money and the banks will not loan any money on a 1995 RV.

After cleaning and waxing the ole gal for 15 years my knees gave out and the heart to get out and climb up and down the RV to keep it looking good just got up and went.

Looking back on the experience I would do it all over again. It was great. It's just time to move on.

Marilyn and I wish you all the best as you folks are the best.

DL

Mouse-Proofing

Ok....

We're facing the inevitable reality of having to park "Old Nellie", our '79 Tioga class C, in storage for the winter. Oh yes, we're adventurous and all, but not adventurous enough to camp in -20 degree Wisconsin weather. So, I guess I'm looking for advice from the "experts", or at least the experienced, on how best to prep the rv for the winter. Any and all pointers you can share would be appreciated!

I have free outdoor storage available at a friend's farm. The problem is, it has a reputation for having mice. Since we just rebuilt the rv and replaced the carpets, paneling, etc, I don't have much desire for an infestation.

Any thoughts?

As a newbie, I am interested in any small bits of advice others have accumulated over their years about issues related to storage....

Thanks millions, RV junkies!
Tires

More on tires, my 2001 Dutch Star has the original tires still. They have always been covered and look like new . Have 56k miles on them. I run them hard (inflation) and am very particular about checking air pressure before embarking on any trip. I have never had a problem but I know I am probably reaching the life cycle end . Any recommendations on where to buy tires here in the southeast? These 275/80 22.5 tires are 9 years old and I hate to throw them away, also my coach runs several thousand lbs lighter then gross. $500.00 bucks apiece times 6 tires :( :( :(

Forestriver Georgetown XL

The Georgetown has a major problem with the roof structure next to the windshield. It is not strong enough to control roll and shift of the windshield frame and the "cap" connected to the roof. Major leaks and broken windshields. The dealer screwed an angle bracket to my dash to stop the windshield from migrating into the passenger compartment. Months later the roof became loose and caused a leak into the cabin area. The repair held for approximate. 650 miles or less. I noticed it first rain which was a few months later, past any warranties. I had to tarp the new coach through the winter. Spring the tarp came off. I noticed now the windshield has migrated out of the frame but, this time its coming out the top.
My research indicates that the structure is not rigid enough to prevent these problems. One dealer indicates that the two front jacks contributes to the problem. When they are used they put stress on the roof structure and adds to the problem.
Forest river is aware of the problems. They indicate that if "you" deliver the coach to Indiana, they will fix it for free. That's great for anyone who lives in Indiana. Unfortunately the "world"is really not that small. Its a known defect with this coach. Go to your local dealer, they will say nothing about it.

Allison Transmission Questions

93Vectra,
I bet you definatly have a disconnected TPS at your engine throttle lever. The code means TPS counts are too low (disconnected) and this makes the signal fail to 100% throttle. You should have the tps check out soon and I am sure it will cure your problems! Thanks and have a great day! :)
